The latest addition to the eco-fashion show frenzy occured in Cracow on January 26th. With the Cracow School of Art and Fashion Design (Szkola Artystyczego Projektowania Ubioru) educating students in creating innovating eco-fashion clothing made of recycled materials-paper and plastic, its no surprise all eyes were on Polish designers for their interpretation of the global trend. Over 300 garments were presented during the show titled "Recykling Multiplikacje". The show was also an opening event of the international competition for young designers createeurope.com's The Fashion Academy Award.

Shoes made from tires, foam cups, magazines, and cork? Wallets made from inner tubes? Purses from noodle bags or plastic soda pop tabs? Dresses made from recycled paper?
What’s this all about? It’s called “recycled fashion”, and it’s becoming necessary as well as popular. Recycled fashion however, isn’t entirely a result of abstract creativity like the ones mentioned above. Each year, the average American throws away about 70 pounds of clothing each year and make up about 3% of our household waste. They end up in landfills and most don’t decompose.
Recycled fashion can be fun and economical. If you’re not one to wear a recycled paper dress, enjoy recycled fashion by shopping from second-hand stores and charity shops. You get great recycled fashion for a fraction of the price of new, and the charity shop will use your money to help their cause.

Jimmy Choo and Marc by Marc Jacobs could definitely contribute to a more sustainable or "green" environment for their company.

When New York Fashion Week kicks off at the end of January, designers will be showcasing their new green designs- but that doesn’t mean lima-bean green will be the new black.
Some of the world’s hottest names in fashion- including Marc Jacobs, Versace, Jil Sander, and Narciso Rodriguez will join no-stranger-to-the eco-scene designer Stella McCartney to participate in Earth Pledge’s FutureFashion runway show, which will feature their one-of-a-kind designs made from recyclable, sustainable, and earth-friendly materials.

This isn’t the first year for the show, which promotes renewable materials and production methods, and eco-fashion no longer means you DIY a re-purposed burlap sack into a clever (but still unfortunately hideous-looking) dress. An ever-increasing awareness of environmental issues has definitely taken root, and socially and environmentally-conscious purchasing options can now be found at all your favorite shopping locales, from your favorite ridiculously cute but shockingly overpriced neighborhood boutique store to all the major department stores.

Simply put, the term “eco-fashion” refers to stylized clothing that uses environmentally sensitive fabrics and responsible production techniques.
The nonprofit Sustainable Technology Education Project (STEP) defines eco-fashions as clothes “that take into account the environment, the health of consumers and the working conditions of people in the fashion industry.”

Clothes and accessories that meet such criteria are usually made using organic raw materials, such as cotton grown without pesticides, or re-used materials such as recycled plastic from old soda bottles. Eco-fashions don't involve the use of harmful chemicals and bleaches to color fabrics—and are made by people earning fair wages in healthy working conditions.

Jimmy Choo’s memories of Princess Diana as his shoe designs hit the mass market
Shoe designer Jimmy Choo has been sharing his memories of Princess Diana.
Jimmy who started out 25 years ago after he arrived in Britain recalls the part Diana, Princess of Wales played in his success. She first came across Choo in 1986, when he was cobbling two pairs a day from a studio in London’s East End.

“Lady Di helped me a lot,” he says. “She trusted me, and for the first seven years I was making shoes for her, I kept it quiet and nobody knew it was me. Even though she was a princess, she often wanted very simple things. She loved flat pumps, even though I always wanted to put her in sandals because she had the most perfect feet.

“She was always eager to exchange ideas, and she never said no to anything. When I started doing her evening shoes, everyone noticed and in those days anything she wore, people followed. She was wonderful and used to invite me to Kensington Palace at Christmas for champagne and mince pies.

“I made her last pair of shoes just before she died. Gold pumps. I was going to deliver them when she came back from her summer. I am sad I never could.”

Shunning the traditional black, brown or beige pump, First Lady Michelle Obama wore Jimmy Choo’s “Glacier” kitten heel in a deep green to complement her cheerful yellow Isabel Toledo ensemble.
The pumps, which matched her olive green leather gloves, were purchased at Chicago boutique Ikram and are from the Jimmy Choo Autumn/Winter 2008 collection.
The unexpected green works well with yellow, which was a popular color on spring-collection runways.

Marc Jacobs

Juergen Teller is going to have fun shooting this collection. So New York in the old freewheeling, non-branded times sense. Jacobs said backstage he can’t fix the economy, so he might as well have a good time. The collection, in all its bad-girl, wet-dream vividness, recalls Jacobs’ early career. The models scarcely looked themselves tonight; more like dolls. All bubbly. The show started two minutes early. Spinnerette was on the sound system.

Available for your consideration is a stunning, authentic Jimmy Choo Ramona bag. The bag was crafted in Italy of rich, ecru-colored biker leather with polished golden hardware. There is something so sultry and sexy about the luxuriant look of this bag. The soft shape and iconic hardware makes this the perfect bag for any occasion. I love the laid back look, which is completely easy to wear everyday. Retail is 1,850.00.
Jimmy Choo's Ramona experienced initial success when celebs like Halle Berry were snapped carrying it. Since then, it has become the brand's all time best selling bag. Two straps lace through shiny metal eyelets to cinch the bag shut, giving it a relaxed slouchy shape. The bag has a front flap to fasten. A rectangular closure etched with the Jimmy Choo signature completes this classic, casual look. The bag measures approximately 9.5” high x 13.5” wide x 4.75” deep. The shoulder straps have a fall length of approximately 8.5”. The interior of the bag is lined with suede-like fabric that is trimmed in lavender-colored textile fabric. It includes a sizeable zip pocket, multi-function pocket and leather tab with snap closure where you can attach your key ring or an accessory.

This alluring, extremely upscale bag is in fair to extremely good pre-worn condition. The leather piping is lightly chaffed and discolored from having rubbed against clothing. There is a pen mark on one side of the bag. The leather on the back of the bag has a handful of small marks. The straps are slightly darker at the top than in other areas. The interior of the bag is primarily clean, however is has a smattering of lipstick marks and some areas of light soiling. The lining of the interior zip pocket is ripped. The shiny golden hardware has some fine, superficial scratches. The piece that passes through the slit in the closure and folds down to secure is scuffed. The bag no longer has its dust cover, tags or other accessories. If you can accept these issues, this is an amazing deal for an authentic Jimmy Choo.

In recent years, the Marc Jacobs brand has increased the number of boutiques and direct point of service locations. This is evident in the signature list of cities featured in the company's print advertisements (although such adverts do not provide an entirely accurate or exhaustive survey of the brand's retail operations). Some of these branded showrooms present only a certain portion of the company's several brands (The Marc Jacobs Collection, Marc by Marc Jacobs, and Little Marc, a children's line) . A number of branded boutiques, for instance, feature only the Marc by Marc Jacobs product line. As of May 2008, Marc Jacobs boutiques in the United States include multiple locations in New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, as well as shops in Bal Harbour, Las Vegas, Guam, Chicago, Savannah, Boston, and Provincetown, Massachusetts. Worldwide, other such stand-alone stores are found in Europe (Paris, London, Madrid, Copenhagen and Moscow), the Middle East (Beirut, Riyadh, Dubai, Kuwait, and Doha), across Japan (multiple locations in Tokyo and Osaka, as well as Kyoto, Kobe, Nagoya, Sendai, Shizuoka, Nagano, Chiba, Matsuyama, and Tottori), Korea (multiple locations in Seoul) and elsewhere in Asia (multiple locations in Hong Kong and Taipei, as well as Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Manila, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Jakarta, and Bangkok). The various ready-to-wear and accessory collections are also widely available at leading department stores around the globe.
In February 2008, Jacobs was accused of plagiarism. It was revealed that a scarf from his collection had the exact same design as a scarf created in the 1950s by Swedish designer Gösta Olofsson, after Esquire writer Rob Millan discovered the scarf's use in a print ad and reported the allegation in the January 2008 issue. [8] In early March, Göran Olofsson, the son of Gösta Olofsson, and Marc Jacobs settled on the issue through monetary compensation.[9]

The Jimmy Choo Company was a successful business, but had yet to reach the dizzy heights of global domination. Enter Tamara Mellon. Tamara Mellon had worked on Vogue magazine, initially as an accessories editor. Being in the fashion world, and being altogether a bit of a smart cookie, she was sufficiently on the ball to spot a gap in the market for luxury designer handmade shoes when she met Jimmy Choo in 1996.
Tamara Mellon was fortunate enough to have a very rich man as her daddy. Her father was Tommy Yeardye, who had founded Vidal Sassoon. Thanks to an investment from Tommy Yeardye, Mellon was able to invest £150,000 pounds in Choo's company to become a partner in it. As the brand became increasingly popular, Mellon saw the scope for global expansion and in 2001 she made a deal with Robert Bensoussan of Equinox Luxury Holdings to buy out Choo's interest in the company for a cool £10 million - the company at this time was valued at £21 million. Jimmy Choo himself is no longer part of the company, although he continues to design haute couture handmade shoes under licence. He has been awarded an OBE by the Queen for his services to the fashion industry. Choo's niece, Sandra Choi, still designs shoes for the company together with Mellon.
In 2004, the company was bought for £101 million by Hicks Muse, a company known for its buyouts of well known brands including Weetabix, Typhoo Tea and BT's Yellow Pages. Hicks Muse now own over 75% of the company, with Mellon and other partners retaining sizeable interests. Mellon has stayed on with the company although she doesn't need to work to survive - her original 49% stake in the company will be worth around £50 million on paper. Robert Bensoussan has also stayed on as chief executive. This deal finally went through during the first week of February 2007.
Now Jimmy Choo makes a global style statement. It has more than 25 stores around the world, and also outlets in prestigious stores worldwide including Harrods and Harvey Nichols. Stores have recently opened as far afield as Japan and Thailand, and there are plans for this year to open additional stores in Las Vegas, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Seoul and Jakarta. (Editor's note: we're still waiting for one to be opened in Middlesbrough.) Fortunately for Mellon, the launch of Jimmy Choo in the US coincided with the screening of "Sex in the City", where the character Carrie Bradshaw, played by Sarah Jessica Parker, is addicted to the brand. The product range now includes handbags and sales have been increasing by 50% a year. Under Hicks Muse, a further expansion of the brand into leather accessories is in the pipeline.

Label Overview

Jacobs introduced his namesake line in 1986 and quickly became the youngest designer ever to win the CFDA Perry Ellis Award for New Fashion Talent. Two decades and several CFDA awards (for womenswear, menswear, and accessories) later, Marc Jacobs is to America what Miuccia Prada is to Italy: the can’t-miss catwalk, the bellwether label, the mercurial designer who stuns/delights/scares the fashion world twice a year. Jacobs has a knack for sizing up the zeitgeist and then one-upping it. A master of the mash-up, his references are wide-ranging, always in flux, and often unlikely. He’s done multi-layered grunge and tight-as-a-drum ladylike. What’s next? It’s unpredictable—but you can safely assume it’ll make waves and move units. The mystique is buoyed by the use of unexpected models (Charlotte Rampling, Dakota Fanning, Posh Spice), and Juergen Teller’s vivid photo campaigns.

Quote by Marc Jacobs "“I like romantic allusions to the past: what the babysitter wore, what the art teacher wore, what I wore during my experimental days in fashion when I was going to the Mudd Club and wanted to be a New Wave kid or a punk kid but was really a poseur. It's the awkwardness of posing and feeling like I was in, but I never was in. Awkwardness gives me great comfort.”

Jimmy Choo Launches Charity Line; Limited Edition Collection will Benefit Project PEP

Tamara Mellon has rallied her pep squad to raise money for African women and children exposed to HIV.

The founder and president of Jimmy Choo unveiled a limited edition capsule collection of shoes, bags and small accessories as part of the charity Project PEP during an event at Selfridges. PEP refers to post-exposure prophylaxis, a medication that, in most cases, stops HIV from taking hold in the body if it is administered within 72 hours of exposure.

Choo plans to donate 25 percent of net sales of the PEP line to the Elton John AIDS Foundation. The money will support funding of the Simelela Rape Centre in Cape Town and allow it to remain open 24 hours a day. “So many women feel strongly about the brand — they feel they own a part of Jimmy Choo. This is a way for women to help other women. And I want them to know that for every product sold, the money will immediately release a whole bunch of PEP drugs onto the market,” said an impassioned Mellon during an interview at the Choo headquarters here.

The collection launched today in Jimmy Choo stores worldwide in addition to Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom.
Mellon said she swapped what would have been the annual cruise ad campaign for a Project PEP one, shot in New York by Terry Richardson and featuring Angela Lindvall. Prices range from $90 for the flip-flops to $995 for the large glazed canvas tote.

MARC JACOBS YOUNGER BROTHER PAUL CARRIES on the LEGACY and LAUNCHES CANY CLOTHING, a SOCIALLY CONSCIOUS LINE of T-SHIRTS

Ventura, CA- June 12, 2009. Paul Jacobs of CANY Clothing is announcing the launch of their online store at www.canyclothing.com. CANY is inspired by the belief that everyone has a voice and the right to be heard, regardless of age, sex, race, religion or sexual preference.
Paul Jacobs is the youngest of the three Jacobs children. At an early age, Paul and his sister were put into foster care when their single mother fell ill and was no longer able to take care of them. His oldest sibling Marc went to live with his Grandmother, who was unable to care for all three children at the time. Marc would eventually go on to become a fashion icon while Paul and his sister would finish out their childhood with an amazing family in foster care. Paul points to his diverse upbringing as the key factor in developing CANY and his belief that from coast to coast we are one country united not divided.

I am excited to see what his brother has designed.

After his mainline flight of fancy, where he confessed he felt no need to ‘rein in my creativity’, Marc Jacobs became the man who fell to earth, for his secondary Marc by Marc Jacobs line, with his eye firmly on the bottom line.
The collection was a delightfully disarranged mix of High School Musical meets Clueless.

Bright florals, checks, spots and geometrics; army-style and bright-coloured, low-top sneakers; bow-wraps in the hair; and glitter-striped stretch belts cinching the waists of everything from short prom-frocks in multi-coloured prints and loose jumpsuits in bright yellow and green satin, to red plaid trench-coats and cheetah-print, baggy T’s worn with baggy red-stripe shorts.
Sweat-pants were worn with braces, striped blazers with faded denim shorts. Throw in a handful of coloured beads, some skeleton necklaces and a clutch of ethnic-stripe totes, tribal-look rucksacks and boxing boots embellished with lots of strap. On the Marc.

On Saturday, November 14, H&M unveiled Jimmy Choo for H&M – a collaboration collection of women’s shoes, clothes, bags, and accessories, as well as menswear items. The opportunity to own Jimmy Choo designed fashion at H&M prices drew long lines at all four Tokyo H&M locations – Ginza, Harajuku, Shibuya, and the new store in Shinjuku.

The H&M location in Harajuku is near the new Nike Harajuku shop (which was having its grand opening) so we headed down there to check out the scene. At the Harajuku store, over 200 shoppers lined up around the block – and in the rain – for a chance at getting their hands on some of that Jimmy Choo goodness.

It is so crazy to me that people, in Tokyo, camped out in front of H&M for the grand opening.
Jimmy Choo and H&M collaborative line was dropped on November 14 in two hundred stores. The pairing of Jimmy Choo and H&M will provide a high-end luxury line of accessories with H&M's affordable price point. Below are a few photos from the add campaign.

Marc Jacobs was born in New York City and at the age of 15 he worked as a stockboy at Charivari, a clothing-boutique in New York. He then entered Parsons The New School for Design. While at Parsons he designed and sold his first line of hand knit sweaters. He also designed his first collection for Reuben Thomas Inc. Following his studies at Parsons, Jacob designed a "grunge" collection for Perry Ellis. Jacob eventually left Perry Ellis and collaborated with Robert Duffy. To this day the Jacob Duffy Design Inc still continues. In 1986, Jacob designed his first collection bearing the Marc Jacobs label. Jacob is the prominent fixture in the New York celebrity scene, having become a celebrity himself. Most of his collections make reference to the fashions of past decades from the forties to the eighties. Marc Jacob is also the current Creative Director for Louis Vuitton.

Jimmy Choo was born in Penang, Malaysia into a family of shoemakers. He made his first shoe when he was 11 years old. He is one of the most notable students of Cordwainers Technical College in London Borough of Hackney, London. The college is now part of the London College of Fashion. While attending college, Jimmy Choo worked part-time in a restaurant and as a cleaner in a shoe-factory in order to fund his education. In 1986, Jimmy opened his own workshop in London. His designs soon became noticed and and in 1988 Vogue featured eight pages of his creative shoes. In 1996, Jimmy co-founded Jimmy Choo Ltd. with British Vogue accessories editor Tamara Mellon. Since 2001, Jimmy has been working on his exclusive Jimmy Choo Couture line. The Jimmy Choo London line is also known as Jimmy Choo Ready-to-Wear. Jimmy Choo is currently collaborating with H&M. He currently lives in London and is still producing expensive high-end shoes.
